Re: stump rot

Well her it comes, that Oregon guy is commenting on the stump rot problem.
Jack and Sherrie got my all woried about this gummy stem blight, so when my
stumps began to look questionable I took action. Tests showed no fungus of
any kind that was related to gummy stem. Okay, what I did was thouroghly bury
the runners to within 18 inces of the end bud, gave the plants a good soaking,
and removed the entire main stump and 1 foot of every runner attached. I now
have 3 #697 Ciliberto plantsthat were attached. The plants being the main
runner and first secondaries off the main. Results were this, no more rotting
of the plant, but slightly diminished pumpkin growth. The pumpkin growth did
not however even get close to stopping, and the more vines I bury, the faster
those pumpkins are growing.
Take Care,
Brett
