Progress report from Baton Rouge, LA

Group:

Grower Frank Millican, who subscribes to the digest but does not post, phoned
me this AM to report that his first fruit of the season weighed in at 215 lbs.
This fruit stopped growing 6 days ago, so he made the decision to cut and
weigh.

A great SPGA effort for the deep south! He's got others on the vine, so we'll
be hearing more from Frank before the season's over. He's using seed from P &
P seed Co. (Waterman)

Frank, an avid pumpkin grower, had his entire front yard tilled and fortified
with dump truck loads of manure and top soil. His two other neighbors are
growing AGs too, so we'll see what happens next.

Louisiana has had lots of rain and unseasonably hot weather. For all of you
growers enjoying your cool, northern summers, we are insanely jealous of you
right now-we are sitting down here with atmosphere so hot and humid, you can
cut it with a knife!

Anyone wishing to post any messages to Frank, feel free to do so. He reads the
digest daily.

Frank, a message to you, I am on the road to NY Friday AM and will post your
progress to the list. My number in NY is (518) 792-4789.

Good luck, my friend!

Barb
