My pumpkins think they are popcorn. I have had no less than 10 little
pumpkins explode when they get 6" to 8" in diameter. These are all open
pollinated in my second patch which gets much less attention than the other
one. This plant has one reasonable size pumpkin that managed to escape the
exploding stage. The plant is from my last years pumpkin (1006 x 1061). I
have 2 questions.
1.) Why do they explode at this size? It's like they get a shot of growth
hormone and the outside can't keep up with the inside growth rate.
2.) What does this mean for the one that has not exploded (yet?). Should
it get less water? fertilizer?
If the big one goes it will wake someone up at night!
