Group,
Saturday I go to the weigh off .
It is my first one.
I have been up the last tonights worrying about all these little details.
Please help.
I have the tarp,(even though it is RED) I have the pumpkin , the truck , and
the helpers .
What is the best time and method to cut the stem ?
** I usally pick it late afternoon the day before so I'm not rushing. I leave
about 2" of vine on either side of the stem. I then put a light soft blanket
over the stem to help prevent the tarp from breaking it.
Should I clamp the vine with something to hold in water ?
** Some people keep them in water, i do not. Personal preference.
Should I like cauterize the stem with something hot to seal it ? How?
** I cauterize it with Sulfur.
What is the best way to get it on the tarp ?
** The same way they get a sheet under someone in a hospital bed. Tip the
Pumpkin on it's side put the Tarp under it folded. Tip the Pumpkin the other
way and unfold and pull it through.
The pumpkins at Topsfield seemed all shinny , do they use a magic pumpkin
polish?
** I just wipe mine down with water.
Thanks in advance, Wish me luck .

** Hope that helps.
George
