Re: Congratulations
I just went to the fair and saw the giant veggies. A 15 foot tall
cornstalk is somewhat un-nerving. I felt like an extra on "Land of the
Giants" (Where's my sewing needle spear?!!)
Seriously though, can someone clue me in? After seeing those specimens
and reading (alot) about all the different pumpkins you guys have
produced in the past I'm a little confused about what makes a weight a
valid record. I read about a couple of enormous pumpkins that were
disqualified for holes or splits, etc. (Some were dq'ed by their owners,
even - more refreshing than Sprite...)
Anyway, if a pumpkin can have a split for a Fair contest and that is an
official weigh in site does that make it a valid record? Or is there
some Universal set of rules that apply broadly to every weigh off? If
not, can someone tell me the basics so that I don't do anything foolish.
(Not that I will be challenging anyone for anything in any weigh-off...
Unless of course there is a category for largest August-set pumpkin,
grown on less than 200 s.f., that bears absolutely no resemblance to
Elvis, Diana or an Extra-Terrestrial.)

p.s. You know, I used to talk about sports.
