I would suggest that you let the main keep going and only terminate those
lives which are growing out of your patch. My rationale is tht the first
leaves start to die off long before the end of September and you need the new
leaf growth to keep the photosynthesis factory that feeds your pumpkin going.
But do cut off the pesky little females that pop up on the newer growth. They
sneak up on you.
You are at the 270 pound range now, so your plants will need lots of leaf
and root structure to maintain the level of feeding they need.
Nice weight for this time of year. Hope you get to 800+
