I think someone else answered the question.  Sounds like the VINE BORER.  
This is definitely a bad year.  Look at the main vine closely for small
holes with orange/brown mush coming out.  These are the borer's entrances
to the vine.  Hard to stop the plant if it is wilting, especially now,
because we are late into the season..........the plant wants to go to
sleep.   A weekly spray program could have helped; even though there is no
sign of bugs, spraying lightly each week helps tremendously.

If you only find one or two borer entrances, you can do an operation to
extract the bore.   

Almost forgot!   If there are no signs of borer entrance into the vine then
it is mosiac wilt caused by the cucumber beetle.   If you have this, good
luck.    Fire-up the tiller, but first burn the vine.
