Howdy!
I would agree it is very tough on the genetics issue.
I know 3 people who grew 837 Thorson 99 seed this year....all 4 pumpkins
looked
different (added mine):
Mine: 100% Green...beautifully shaped.
Brandt: (From my seed package from Steve) Orange but had a Huge blossem end
on ALL pumpkins on this plant...which made the pumpkins "butt ugly".
Heyne: Orange but with lots of green on the top areas.
Buntrock: Did well in Iowa, but was more of a squash than pumpkin...
So there you have it....4 different results from 4 seeds from the SAME
pumpkin...
My guess is that people who grow the 656 Bhaskaran 00 (760 Patrick 99(f) x
815 checkon 98(m)) will not be assured of a nice orange pumpkin as I got from
the 760 Patrick seed. (801.5 x self). Some might get the nice
orange...others might get the
blue I got from the 815.
One final note: People who grew the 760 Patrick...all seemed to get the nice
shape
and orange color...so maybe the 760 is "pure" ;-).
Pictures are still on my web page:

Good Discussion.
