Dave, I would agree with your comments on the genetic question. It still
surprises me on how many different options a AG can have and does throw out
on the same seed. Will we ever see the ultimate seed in terms of 100%
orange, or 100% tall, etc, on a consistant basis? I believe not. What we can
do is research our seed choices and look at their history of fruit it's
produced. Pick certain traits that are favorable to us, and hope for the
best. With info now available for most seeds, one can see, and for most part
predict if a green or orange fruit will come out by looking at past
performance. Now granted there's always one that throws a loop into the
equation, but it's the best we can do. Looking at the parents of the 837. I
haven't seen any squash from the 690 sproule side, think I saw one from 563
geert side. One would think the 837 would have been green free. Could there
be a rogue gene created from the cross(like a chemical reaction in a way)? I
have no background in gentics and don't really care to, but just me ranting.
All I know is that I enjoy the hobby and if it comes green or orange and is
Big, I'm happy. Happy Holidays Everyone. Pumpkinpiper
