Marv - To me "true green" means it starts out around marble or golf ball
size with green color
(or green skin if you will) and stays that way until maturity............as
opposed to a pumpkin that
starts out yellow, orange or cream and gets some green surface coloring
during the middle or end of
its cycle. "True green" or "true squash" start, stay and finish green.
I don't think of "true green" as a biological term but rather as term used
to let another grower that
this baby didn't start out as a pumpkin and "magically" turn into a
squash.........just my opinion.
Personally I like to grow "true squash" and will plant 1/2 my main patch
"true green" this year......and
likely have a satellite patch of 100% "greenies".
Best of luck to all in '04,
George
