Re: Groundhogs
List,
The only way I've found to keep groundhogs out of the patch for sure is to
bury fence 12-18" deep around the patch and surround it with particle board
so the ((**(*&^ don't climb up and in. They are acrobats, especially the
small ones. I keep them live trapped using apples sliced in quarters as
bait. I drive the little buggers up the road ten miles and let them go at
River's edge away from any farms. If they try to dig under the particle or
plywood they hit fence. Electric fence doesn't deter the ones I have. If you
do use electric fence put one strand at 2" off ground and keep weeds trimmed
around and 6". I've put one strand at three feet up to dter deer and 11'
posts to keep deer from jumping into the patch and line barbed wire every
foot after th plywood etc. Trust me, I've had three seasons ruined by
groundhogs causing me to go extreme. You will be chancing it if you don't
follow these guidelines. I'll have to try the vanilla on apple trick in the
cage. Thanks, Don
