Oregon Update

Well its planting time again. I decided to start a little early this year,
hopeing for a warm streak to hit. By fruit set time I expect my main vine to
be pleanty long, thus giving me pleanty of nurishment for the two pumpkins I
plant to have on each plant. I constructed a 150 x 40 feet greenhouse out of
PVC and 4 mil plastic. It is only 6' high to conserve plastic expense. All
looks good. I have decided to go with a #946.5 Geerts, #866 Mombert, and #935
Lloyd. These three will be history in the making. I have discovered a way to
inhibit the maturation rate of the fruit so that I can allow the fruit ot grow
at a slower rate over a much longer period of time. Could be interesting.
Sounds good on paper doesn't it? We did get our first frost 2 days ago and I
harvested the last of my pumpkins. A #107 and a #115. Cute little fellers to
say the least. Not even the warm springs under the property could keep the
plants from freezing this time. I made room for an eighth site for 1999 now
all I need is bovine defication to cover the pumpkin patch for the next few
months.
Take care all,
Brett The Pumpkinguru Hester
