Hello All,
We have just had our first hot weather with a couple of days around the ton.
On my morning inspection the vine it was fine but in the afternoon a number
of leaves had been damaged (so quickly). On one leaf the outer inch right
around was completely devoid of moisture and other new leaves had similar
damage to a lesser extent. I had this last year and put it down to mites.
I had not fertilised in a week so could not find any other cause, only seems
to happen to relatively young leaves. I sprayed for mites and have not had
any further damage.
Many leaves are suffering from heat stress and sprinkling does not help
enough. I therefore erected a shade cloth over parts of the vine and the
leaves look a lot better. Do other growers use any sun protection for the
vine in extreme hot conditions?
