Just some food for thought, A friend of mine has a cabin in the mountains.
Their water supply pipe to the house runs just a few inches under the
concrete patio. Needless to say it freezes ever winter. They somehow
discovered that if they buy about a dozen bags of manure and lay them on the
concrete over top of where the pipe is buried, it keeps from freezing all
winter !
Seems like your idea might be worth a try.
