cliff,
is the engine trying to run backwards or is the tiller when you are starting
it going into reverse causing the rope to be pulled out of your hand? if
it's the engine i think it's timing and would check the space between the
mag and flywheel it should be around 20/1000 of an inch( match book cover )
also check for rust on the magnet on the flywheel this can be cleaned with
steel wool randy
