My opinion, is to buy from the store. In the first year, you will learn from
your mistakes and apply your lessons learned towards the second year. I wonder
what is the largest pumpkin was ever grown for a first year grower?

The same genetic potential is a hidden question. It would be hard to tell. In
theory, the answer would "NO", but how can you really tell.
