It appears to me that you have a tree problem not a sapsucker problem.
Your tree has bugs.
Trees like humans have a life span. Yours is probably nearing its end.
Plant another pecan tree or two.
And leave this tree for the birds. One reason the bird population is in
decline, is that humans are landscaping their environment for themselves
not nature. Birds need these grubs to survive. After it's dead and a
snag, they might build a nest cavity in it. Take up birdwatching.
