Fwd: Lifting tarp

Elkskin:

From all the weigh off's I have seen and participated in, a cargo net is not
suitable. They are too loosely woven, would be cumbersome to use and certainly
would bruise or damage the fruit.

The best tarps I have seen are flat, square tarps of heavy reinforced canvas
material or hypalon type material with sewn in reinforcements, with plenty of
handles all around.

I do not have a tarp, but have improvised by using old comforters, sleeping
bags, etc. This is not adviseable on a large pumpkin, but works OK up to
300-400 lbs.

Last year, we rolled a 460 onto a sheet of aluminum sided insulation board,
then slid that onto a piece of plywood across the forks of a John Deere to get
it out of the field.

Tarps are nice and handy, but if you don't have one on hand, improvise!

    How About,

Has anyone ever thought of using a piece of "Cargo" netting for lifting
AG's, you know? the kind of net they use at shipping docks for lifting heavy
packages and other stuff, it certainly would be strong enough and supply
plenty of handles, might be able to get some from a military surplus store at
a good price, Just a thought, (Elkskin)
