john, hi. i wouldn,t worry about cutting main vine off after the pumpkin.
i,ve been doing it for years and even by keeping track of growth rates i
have never seen the pumpkin eveen slow down it,s growth by doing it. it
seems as though the plant can supply far more than the fruit can use. just
my opinion .    good luck            craig
