Re: Gift Certificates for P & P Seed Co/ Christmas

WOW!
I never expected you to share those tips with me!

I also grew my second largest in about 10 inches of soil over pavement
at home
this year in a garden only 10 ft. x 14 ft. It was no great
accomplishment really
at 454 lbs. from the 805Pukos but all of the neighbors were really
impressed.
I've added another foot of soil to it.

I agree with you about trying new things and will be trying some new
training
systems this year as well as using less fertilizer. My 513 this year
was pretty
well burned to the ground from too much fertilizer but that patch is now
three
years old and has lots of manure, compost and potting soil in it. A few
growers
have told me that they only fertilized a few time in the whole year and
that it
did wonders once the soil was good enough.

I'm fortunate that I had plenty of time in the past two years to prepare
10 patches
with my garden tiller, manure and compost.
We get compost free here and I have my own rabbits and chickens and trade
my home-made wine and halloween pumpkins for horse and pig manure from
other farmers. ( I have three main patches and the others are for
experimentation
and male pollinators only.) Now you know why I'm looking for more seeds
since I already have a few good ones.

I'm going to stockpile the leaves, compost and manure from now on and
only add
it to the patches to cover the vines as needed so I can get an accurate
soil test.

Thanks for the info and ideas!
Michel
