Here is my small contribution to the investigation of seed potential. I
think we miss some interesting information if we just concentrate on the
largest pumpkins coming from a certain seed, let us say the l006. We ask
ourselves the question"What pumpkins over 700lbs has this seed
produced?" We all know that a seed's potential is tapped by the grower's
abilities to get everything out of that seed that is there. Our growing
talents vary widely to say the least. Shouldn't asking the question
whether this seed produced ones personal best, regardless of size, show
us something of the seeds potential? For instance: Hugh Wiberg has been
growing pumpkins for 30 years. He plants the l006 for the first time and
beats his personal best by 100 pounds with a 673. Or if Joe Mills plants
the l006 and beats his best by l50 lbs with a 558. Could this be saying
something of the seeds potential even though the the l006 seed did not
produce the biggest of pumpkins in these cases?
