Christmas tree method

Question: Has anyone on the list tried the Christmas tree method in the past
(or is this a brand new idea) and if so, could you please send me your
thoughts on how it worked out and what you feel are the advantages and
disadvantages of this method. I have a small plot and am considering trying
this method and would appreciate any input that could be provided.
