Mike,

if your at say 5.5 you can add a little oyster shell flour to bring you up
to the 6.5 range....it does the same thing as dolmite lime but with out the
Magnesium...........Or if your Ph is pretty good like 6.4 you can add
gypsum as it won't really change things but get you adequate calcium which
is good for desease prevention........Heres another weird thing that i am
having a hard time grasping is a balanced soil is relative. It depends on
the ratio of CEC,Potassium, Magnesium, Calcuim......it appears to me that
if you have a low Cec(8) and have a low level of potassium(100) and then a
high level of Magnesium(450) and a low level of Calcium(800)....then there
are risks of toxicty or out of balanced levels.........Now heres the tricky
part it is to my understanding that now if your Cec was higherlike (39)
and then your (K) was400 and your (Mg.) was450(which was high and out of
balanced before now fits the balanced ratio. Your Ca. could be
5070......hopefully someone can explain it clearer...........brock
