Re: PUMPKIN PROBLEM

This is so true! However growers who have both heat and humidity have a
different challenge. High humidity encourages all sorts of fungi, mildew,
mold, etc. Our problem is cooling without increasing humidity. I know some
people use a partial shade cloth to keep the plants from cooking too much.

I've found that misters increase these fungus problems... perhaps I didn't
have the system fine-tuned well enough, but I (and my pumpkins) seem happier
with partial shade, which I'm fortunate to get from nearby trees which give
me midday dappled shade. If not for the trees, I would be checking out the
shade cloth idea.

Had a long conversation last night with Massey Goree, the Alabama record
holder, who has been having big problems with too much dampness - he's now
in the process of setting up shade cloth for his best plant.
