Re: Fusarium Wilt

Mark,
It took Purdue about a week to get the specific results of the
test back to me. To much water is my guess as to why I had fusarium wilt.
When it is too wet that is the perfect breeding ground for fungus. Next year
I will use a product called rootshield with the hope of preventing the same
problem. For now my plants have recovered well. I spray with daconil once a
week to prevent further damage. I am using some sprinkling heads I received
from Irrigation supply company of columbus, OH. They put a very fine spray
on the plants and use a relatively low amount of water. Truthfully, Mark if
your plants are wilting excessively in this heat something is probably wrong.
It is common to get a little wilt on the end of the vines sometimes. If
that is all you have you are doing fine. A little misting will fix that in a
heartbeat. We have not had 90+ temps like we normally do ( at least yet we
haven't). Hope things improve for you. It would be nice to meet you at the
Oct. 7th weigh-off in Noblesville.

Brad Walters
