Howdy!
Once again the year has been strange...wettest spring in almost 110
years...standing water in patch....followed by 30 days of no rain.
After shoveling out 6 pickup loads of fresh cow manure last fall by hand, I
will admit that this has proven to be a huge boost over the horse manure from
the year before....I have some plants with leaves of 25"...so the solar
collecting should not be a problem this year...ok ok...onto the pumpkins:
First, I would like to say if you ever go away on vacation, Mr. George Heyne,
is the most awesome person to watch over your patch...I was gone for 10 days
and he pollinated 96 pumpkins! (Bagged, Tagged, and gave a detail report)
He is truly the pumpkin king in MN!
I am now upto 140+ pumpkins pollinated and have some choices to make but....
Here are the top pumpkins from my 8 plants + my kids 2 plants:
656 Bhaskaran - 30 day old pumpkin at 98" 229 OTT (not a good shape! like
mom was!)
403 Brandt - 22 day old pumpkin at 70"
910 Stellpflug(my son's) - 21 day old pumpkin at 63"
655 Johnson - 20 day old pumpkin at 62"
947 Patrick (my daughters) - 19 day old pumpkin at 57"
760 Plant 1 - 16 day old pumpkin at 50" (not a good shape)
400 Reynolds - 15 day old pumpkin at 44"
552 Millican - 14 day old pumpkin at 42" (nice long shape)
760 Plant 2 - 12 day old pumpkin at 35" (nice shape)
850 Wallace - 12 day old pumpkin at 28" (Best growing plant ever! But
hard to get fruit!)
Well wishing everybody a great finish to the summer!
I will try to get some pictures of the pumpkins out on the web.
