The pattern you describeis that of mosaic, but that is not what I ended
up with, my problem was with a neighbor and 2 4 D weedkiller. It causes
maturity problems, usually kills the plant, but in my case, has stunted
it tremendously. I helped save it somewhat by watering the dickens out
of it the day it happened.
As for the excess male flowers, yes, after you have the amount of fruit
set, you want to remove all male and female flowers once you see them,
as they do nothing but consume plant energy. As for the browning peaves,
It could be some type of a bacetrial wilt, I would give the plant a good
spraying of daconil, and keep up an agressive routine of fungicide
similar to this.
