Re: Rocky's Patch
Rocky, is this the pattern? Quoting from "The Vegetable Gardeners Guide"
"One side or entire plant suddenly droops or wilts, with symptoms usually
appearing first on lower and outer plant parts. Leaves may turn yellow
before wilting. Plant fails to grow and eventually dies. A cut made across
the stem near the base reveals dark streaks or other discoloration on the
tissue inside or releases an oozing, sticky white substance. The cure is to
destroy infected plants, wash everything etc. They say it is wilts some
caused by bacteria and others caused by fusarium or verticillium fungus,
display similar symtoms. Bacterial wilt occurs in midsummer, fusarium in
hot weather, and verticillium wilt in cool weather. These microorganisms
penetrate roots and stems and clog the water-conducting vessels."
Now I have a problem I had two leaves that had a spot that flattened out on
the edges and turned brown, I cut these two off but now have another one
leaf exhibiting the same symptoms. Will this continue? do I even need to
worry about it? I can't find anything in my books about this particular
phenom. Also, should you leave male flowers on if not needed? isn't this
wasted energy?
