Re: CA buds

Kathie, I'm here but scratching my head over something.  The 534 Wilbers is
lush and green and producing tons of males. It produces females, but the
females never
mature enough for pollination, they are just sitting there, with small
immature blossoms that do not open.  I keep telling the plant "C'MON, it's
JULY already, the clock is running!" I get nothing in reply!?!  Now, the 335
Wilbers is a smaller plant, and has lagged behind the 534 by about 2 weeks,
even though they were planted on the same day.  Now, that plant is putting
out several females that look like they will mature.  I know only time will
tell, but the wait is killin me.
I am finding this very amusing, none of the lessons I learned last
year are applicable to this year's situation.  Although I was able to get in
several jokes about males being ready before females and that was the case
for a few other species I could mention.
Anyway, I will reply to the rest of your letter in private with
pictures of my plants in the next few days.  Good weather and good growing to
you!

P.S. If anyone out there in the pumpkin gallery has an explanation for what
is happening, I will entertain any and all ideas.
