G, I was skeptical, but I don't have anyone else's #s to compare them to, and I thought they would put less "lipstick on a pig" than a commercial firm or farm supply company; it's not like they need to lie & make a fortune on compost--they can do that with speeding tickets. And, no, their compost isn't free, either, but for my needs it's still very affordable, $12/truckload for screened, and I don't have any room to make my own.
And Im a bit of a wiseguy at times too, from what I've heard anyway. My experience with Town compost is that its rarely properly composted ....therefore weeds are the norm. The municipalities put everything in there too....my firm has tested street sweepings when a local town wanted to add it to the compost and found high levels of petroleum, etc (bad stuff) in the sweepings, so if they sweep the streets over there its probably in your compost. Ive seen them grind up trees, telephone poles , and creosoted RR ties and add them to the composting process. Obviously, municipal compost isn't just the good leaves you would compost in your own pile at home, but every diseased tree the town takes down.........but, its mostly organic, and a cheap bulk ammendment.................g
