I was suffering tremendous human and AG anxiety and
frustration at not being able to pollinate any females as well. It probably was
the heat. But this morning bright and squirlly pollinated 5 AG's and one human.
Slept for two hours afterward.
Feeling releaved in
Spencerville.
Bob.
We are late but depending on the low temps in Aug and
Sept we could still get a good pumpkin in time. My work a few years ago showed
the following typical growth rates, along with the length of the
season:
Table 1 Average Weight Gain/Day Required To Grow World Class Pumpkins
Predicted in'97
Actual
Days from 10 lbs. 1010 lb.
Pumpkin Burke's 1092
0 to 5 2.5 5 to 10 10 10 to 15 24.2 16.6 15 to 20 26.8 20.8 20 to 25 27.1 23.2 25 to 30 24.7 24.8 30 to 35 20.1 24 35 to 40 16.3 19.2 40 to 45 12.4 15 45 to 50 9.7 15 50 to 55 7.7 11.5 55 to 60 6.4 10.5 60 to 65 4.9 6 65 to 70 3.6 5.3 70 to 75 2.2 5.2 75 to 80 1.4 5.2 80 to 85 3 85 to 90 1.4 09 to 95 1.8 Note: a 10 lb. Pumpkin will have over
the top measurements of 70 inches. Also it takes about two weeks after
pollination for the pimpkin to reach a weight of 10 pounds.
So frous late starters we enter the table around August first
and hope to put most of our weight on by Sept 15th day 45 and end the season
about day 65 which gives us all but 100 pounds out of the pumpkin. So starting
late is detrimental.
