Hi Bob 812 La Rue seed is that from 1997? If is the fruit should be smooth
and very orange. I would keep the one on the secondary vine that you used
to replace the flat main vine. I agree that the flat vine may not be able
to support a pumpkin growing at full speed. I would cut and remove all
