Re: July 9th Bhaskaran Patch Update From SE MN!

Hi Bill,
Sorry forgot to tag my name at the end..I will do it this time.(Not Wayne :-)
I agree...I like to do the vine movement in the heat of the day....don't do
this in the morning or late evening.
The milk jug is a support on both sides off the pumpkin...I like to have
them 3-4 feet from the pumpkin with loose vines so that the pumpkin can control
pulling them up as needed without stressing the MV or Stem. If they get
tight, I will take out another secondary(or more)...I try to make sure that the
stem stays parallel to the ground and doesn't kink one way or another from
getting pulled. So sort of an elevator theory with with the stem. Sometimes I
use 4 (or more) milk jugs for additional support if the stem ends up very
high. Had 34lbs of growth today on my 670 Daigle! Gotta watch the stem/MV
connection daily with this growth!
Hope this helps.

However, the key is vine positioning with the pumpkin...once I decide on
the pumpkin...I cut secondaries 3-4 feet before AND after it....put milk
jugs
w/H2O under the main vines for support and also....gulp...move the main
vine

(AFTER) the pumpkin so that it almost a 90 degree angle(yes, more
secondaries
will need to be cut that are pointed back into the plant)...that way when
the
pumpkin gets bigger it is not pushing on the Main Vine.

Hi Wayne,
I like this milk jug idea. Could you explain it a little better. Are you
setting the jug under the vine just past the newly pollinated pumpkin?
As far as moving the vine, so the pumpkin is on a 90 degree corner, I have
learned if I move the vines to a right angle away from the pumpkin in the
afternoon they are a little more flexible and have a better chance of not
breaking the main vine.
Thanks for the advice Wayne and best of luck to all.
Bill
