If you have ants, I will bet you have aphids also. They eat the sticky stuff the aphids leave behind. Spray the under side of your pumpkin leaves with 2 table spoons joy dishwashing soap to 1gallon of water. This kills the aphids no problem. I have been useing it on my pumpkin plants for years now.
