I pollinated her on July 10. She is measuring 118lbs this morning. Thanks
for the vine advise. I talked smack about hot and sunny as it has been that
way for a month. Today was 79 and cloudy. I did cut my laterals and some
more node roots but didn't have the guts to move the vine much. I am going
to wait for the next hot one so my main is pliable.
Thanks again!!

Steve,
Good news on the 1355...it grew a 1200lber last year for the Akkerman's.
However, George Heyne and I can't seem to get anything to set on ours...so
it's a bust for me this year...good luck with the 1355..hope it gets to
1200+
for you!

Thanks Dave! Hot and sunny won't be a problem. I started to do what I have
one in the past....which is basically what you described. What has thrown
e off is the massive growth from these vines. The secondaries are
verywhere! I get to be too sentimental on the "salad" part of things. I
ill hack away in the morn.
.S. Best fruit going is a 1355 Bhaskaran 09.

Steve,
'm a firm believer in no stress on the stem...I basically knock off all
econdaries 3-4 ft in front and behind the pumpkin...more from behind as
hey
re not as critical. I also put milk jugs on the sides of the MV around
here the stem connects...so that there is a slack so the stem has no stress
nd can grow parallel to the ground....which I think is important. I try to
nsure a "V" also....you are correct...be VERY careful and do on a hot sunny
ay! However, once set up...not much more needs to be done for the rest of
he season...which I like. I then put them into "tarp" tents and also cover
hem additionally with a sheet...to insure both dry and no sun on them.
ood luck.

am having issues with my vines pinning my stem down toward the ground. I
ve gone along the vine from the fruit in each direction, cutting the node
ots in order to free the vine. Should I free the downstream end and keep
loose? I am so afraid of pressuring my stem or breaking my main.
ny advise out there would be great.
