George, Mike, All
I think I got a little in a hurry when I first
thought I had a lack of nitrogen. My plant had a slight yellow tint to
it and average growth was about 6". I decided to add some nitrate of
soda with my regular fertilizer to increase my nitrogen. I think when I
did this I increased my nitrogen to much and caused a burst of growth
and the vines to snap.
The main vine is still growing, only about 4" per day. I buried it at
the break. Today I pollinated a pumpkin at about 13' in great weather.
The little gal was a monster with big stem and hugh features. I don't
know if its been all the rain or the extra nitrogen but the vines with
exception to the main has growed 11" per day for the last 2 days. Only
had that kind of growth 2 other times and that has been after a couple
of rain storms.
Thanks to all for the great responses to my problems. This year seems to
be even more exciting then my first year cause I"m armed and dangerous,
my poor plants.
Good Growing,
Joe, Logan, Ohio
