Heat and Pollination

I have heard different people talk about lack of pollination during
heat periods.  Does the heat keep the female flower from opening all
together or just not take pollination?  I have a female flower I have
been waiting on for 3 or 4 days.  It seems it hasn't changed much and I
wondered if the heat was the cause of it not opening.
