I have heard different people talk about lack of pollination during
heat periods. Does the heat keep the female flower from opening all
together or just not take pollination? I have a female flower I have
been waiting on for 3 or 4 days. It seems it hasn't changed much and I
wondered if the heat was the cause of it not opening.

Not usually, it will open earlier in the day on a hot one. Sometimes the
plant will not grow the flower to maturity, I had that problem on one plant
this year. It also takes quite a few days for the bloom to be mature enough
to open.
