Chris,
Most people go with a high phosphorus formula to start, like 15-30-15.
After fruit set they go to a 20-20-20 or even more Potash, like a 20-10-30 or
something similar. Two inches a day is O.K. after fruit set, if you are
cooler it will grow slower over a longer period of time. When your
circumference gets up to 40 or 50 inches you may see 3 or 4 inches a day. In
warm weather you may see 5 inches a day for a few days when you are in the
70's or 80's. Pouring excess fertilizer on will slow growth rates and make
the pumpkin mature. Just keep the plant a healthy green.
