Hi there,
I am very new at computers and growing pumpkins, I have a question or
two that I hope you can help me with. First I grow some of the hottest
peppers around, also all kinds of veggies, but never pumpkins. I got into a
contest with a bunch of friends, to see who could grow the heavyest pumpkin.
We all planted Alantic Giant seedlings around June 1st. My plant is growing
well I think, the main runner is about 20ft. long with several flowers and
one fruit which is a little larger than a golf ball. It has 5 or 6 runners
coming off the main runner, they have no flowers yet. I give the plant 5
gallons of water every day, (after the sun goes down) and once a week I give
her 5 gallons of miracle grow, (mixed as the box recomends). I would like to
know if this method is ok or should be feeding her something else. Also
should I take off any flowers or fruit that pop out now that I have one that
seems to be doing well? Some said to cut the main runner when it reaches 20
ft, also cut the runners that come off it. I hate to hurt her but if that is
what your suposed to do I will.
Any advice that you could give me would help out, this is first time at
pumpkin growing. I don't have to win (it would be nice), just be competive.
Thank so much,
Richard M Couch
