Grass around vines

OK, here's a question for any vetran urban growers remaining on the
list...

When your vines trail over the grass do you trim the grass (manually of
course so as not to damage them) around the vines or just let it grow
long?  For portions of vine you bury, do you trim grass around first or
just bury it?

I've mostly been letting it grow long, but have become worried the long
grass may retain too much moisture and increase likelihood of fungal
disease.  On other hand, maybe it will disguise vines from vine borers. 
Where I have buried vines I have just buried the long grass along with
them.  What do you do?
