Hello again,
Its time to seperate the men from the weak plants and pumpkins now.
Here is the lowdown from Oregon,
Site #1 #1 627.5 Now the best looking plant in the patch with the
problems the other 627 is having. 6 fruit remain on the plant, with the
largest sitting at 189 total inches at 26 days. It is one long high fruit
with not a crack or rib in it yet.
Site #2 827 Still holds the largest fruit in the patch claim, but it isn't
overly impressive for its age. At 43 days it sits at 221 total inches (with
103 in circ.). It is growing at a constant rate of about 12 pounds a day.
By the chart I should be over 200 pounds now.
Site #3 850.5 Tough luck plant. In a freak wind storm, on of the firs
that stands as a northern windbreak broke in half and fell across the
northern part of the plant. I lost my best 2 prospects in the process. It
seems like every time I get my hopes up for this plant something happens.
Site #4 #2 627 Disappointing booger. Weighed my best prospect today at
227 pounds. And yes that means it is off the plant. That plant is a
splitter from hell! I can't figure out how one seed from the 627 is
producing long cylindrical fruit with soft forgiving stems, and another
produces pumpkins which are bell shaped with stems that split in 4-6 ways.
God the little fruit grew and grow fast though.
Well, take care all, and good luck. Oh, tallest sunflower 14'1" tallest
cornstalk 15;6" and growing strong.
