Orange Tinge

Pumpkinologists everywhere,.... quick question,

I have my largest pumpkin covered and it is growing quite well,
but I am concerned that it is starting to take on an orangish colour.
Ideally, if a pumpkin is covered, will it remain yellow, or will it
naturally turn slightly orange as it grows? I noticed that last year
as my pumpkins turned orange, the growth slowed.

Does and orangish tinge mean that the shell is hardening and growth
will be slowing?

Thanks
