Marv- how did the pumpkin perform after the amputation? Did the growth rate
decrease significantly and what was the final weight ?I'm going through this
situation now, only I got a small split due to moving the pumpkin towards 9o
degrees.I have stopped moving it and have fallen short of the optimum 90 but
don'twant to kill my only pumpkin w/a split. Its only about 110" OTT and I
still have room to grow. When do you think its too late to move? Thanx!!!!

The pumpkin I had was a real late set,( Aug.16) . I removed the vine when it
was
about a hundred pounds. It was just starting to really take off. It continued
at average of 4in. per day for some time after. Final weight was 397lbs.,
7wks. after pollination. If you are developing a split I would stop trying to
move any more.
Maybe you can loosen vine further away from fruit and try moving it away. Be
careful.

If you have to cut the vine I don't think it's total disaster. I was happy
with mine.
