Is it safe to just use sand or topsoil under the pumpkin? Won't the
pumpkin rot or grow a little irregular?
I like the idea of styrofoam, formica or the old kitchen hot pads under the
pumpkin. Under the foam or pad put a little handful of diazanon and a
couple slivers of Irish Spring Soap. This should stop the boring insects
(diazonan) and the soap will repell the moles and chipmucks.
Last year I had a soft spot where my pumpkin layed directly on the ground.
I am going to try some different things this year and find out what really
works.
