hailstorm beat them to smitherines...

We have been enjoying growing these plants and want to thank all the generous
folks who gave seeds and info. Right after I put the plants out, in May, a
hailstorm came and beat their broad leaves to smitherines.

I immediately put my backup seeds into a baggie full of water to start again,
but that was premature, the plants survived and reflourished.

Lincoln Mettler 974 has grown the largest and longest both times and has some
really beautiful flowers. Zach Lippman is a few feet shorter but his vine
did not get blown around and twisted. He is about 10 feet long right now.
Nic gets to looking real good and then he turns yellow. At first he looked
like he was going to do the very best but has not grown long. Hester is
next, he has not run with a vine, just kind of bushed up. Then little
Lincoln is smallest. My neighbors Vic wont run with a vine either. My
parents' Vic is a real trouper considering they should be prosecuted for
pumpkin plant neglect.

Just recently we had another hail storm, they were the size of large marbles.
My husband and I were running around putting covers over the pumpkin plants
and we got brained real bad.

All our flowers have been male flowers. We have not one single female
flower. What are we doing wrong? Angela in New Mexico.
