Squash Vine Borer Evidence?

I have a nice pumpkin going on my Lloyd 935 plant at 222", or 238
lbs. Right next to the pumpkin on the vine is a soft spot with an orange
colored soft stuff on it. Is there a damned borer in there? I broadcast
merit in May, and assumed that that would prevent any onslaught of the
borer, especially since I had none last year. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
