My understanding is that at different times, different parts of the plant 
can be sources or sinks...  The roots and leaves can be sinks when they are 
growing rapidly and need lots of energy, but other times they are sources - 
when they take up nutrients or photosynthesize, respectively.  My guess is 
that a fruit would be primarily a sink, and energy would flow toward it as 
much as possible.  I believe nutrients flow toward it from all directions - 
and that sources near the fruit would be most productive toward that end.

Remember in the OSLG newsletter, Todd Kline said he likes to get a good root 
bed on each side of the pumpkin.  If that's what it takes to get a 1036, 
count me in!

There are some more knowledgeable source/sink chats back in the archives... 
97 or 98 maybe, in case anyone wants to track them down.

well going head-to-head with the thunderstorms we've been having lately.
