Paul,
The "old" Plants that have started blossem but are
still small, are stressed, that is why they have
thrown out the blossems. Sorry to tell you that they
probably won't do to well. Same with the plants in
your peat containers, they are probably root bound and
stressed. AG's don't transplant well after the plant
has 2-3 true leaves. Most people transplant after the
plant has 1 true leave. You could try putting all you
plants out in the patch and wait a week or two to see
if any start getting any decent growth. If one does
then that is your plant. If they all just sit there
and don't do much then i think you are sunk. If this
is the case you might want to start another seed or
two (not your best) you might still be able to grow
something.
which is better than nothing, at least in my opinion.
I hope this helps.

I started some AG plants indoors the last week in
April. The weather was
bad
and the plants had to be held until the ground could
be worked. Each week,
I
started 2 more plants as backups. Finally, we got a
few nice days and the
patch was tilled and 2 plants put in. Another was
added 10 days later. The
rest were held as potential backups.
The oldest plant would have been planted about a
month earlier than it
actually was. The plants have not started to vine
yet but the oldest plants
have blossoms on the stem. Perhaps up to a
half-dozen. Similar behavior is
occurring on some that are still in peat containers.
Is this normal? Do
plants have a flower clock?
I still have several plants originaly intended as
backups but will probably
discard them soon. I have found that a few cucumber
beetle scouts have
found
these potted plants.
The ground is still soft and damp in my small patch
(14x20) . I will have
to
put down some pieces of plywood and inspect the
plants that are in the
ground. Of those with blossoms, do I leave them
flower?. They appear to be
all male flowers.
Vining should start anyday if we can get some warm
weather. We had another
thunderstorm and deluge yesterday. Any solublized
nutrients were probably
washed out of the top 6 inches of soil. Looks like
another "pray and spray"
day here in western NY. Will these early blossomers
have much of a chance?
