Re: Saving males
Jon,
Sorry the pollen in your day old male flowers is not
viable. From what I have read the pollen only stays
good for a few hours after the flower opens, maybe 1/2
a day at most. I have heard of people freezing their
flowers in liquid nitrogen to keep it longer, but who
has some of that laying around the house? and who
knows how long the pollen last even then. So I guess
you can keep them in the vase as a decorative item. To
me they are one of the prettiest flowers around.

Estimados amigos,
I have a relative shortage of males on my "pollinator"
plant, and two females
on the main Hester will be ready tomorrow. So I picked
two males from the
pollinator which just opened this AM and am keeping
them in a vase in the
house until tomorrow to be sure I have a male or two
ready for tomorrows
festival.
So, the question is, will the pollen on males that are
reduced to the state
of "cut flowers" be alive and well 24 hours later?
